Why evanescence wrote my immortal

Nor would death be a reason to resent having been alone "all along. Regardless as to what the original intent of an author is, quite often they will later read something they've written and realize that their subconscious has added multiple levels of meaning to their work.

Most artists are aware of the possibilities, no, probabilities of this occurring. To me, this song could be about a lover, a friend, a parent, a child, a grandparent A dream morphing into a nightmare. Ben Moody a co-founder of Evanescence, along with Amy Lee, but Ben left the Band at October, wrote the lyrics and the piano for this song. It was one of Evanescence's first songs, and was supposed to be on their first EP, but they decided to remove it as a last minute change.

The lyrics are totally fictional and are based on a movie Moody saw. Lyrically, "My Immortal" talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone. An accompanying music video directed by David Mould was filmed entirely in black and white in Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, Spain on October 10, The clip, which can also be seen below, shows Lee sitting and singing in various locations, but never touching the ground.

Shots of Moody are also included but he doesn't appear in any scenes with Lee or the rest of the band. I think of a lot of your music as being open and vulnerable, and you interact with fans online.

I hope it just shows more and more of that willingness to be vulnerable because as hard as it is, it always leaves me feeling more satisfied than just putting on a pretty face.

Which brings me to my next question: had you ever heard of My Immortal? I think for quite a while I was just unaware of it. Okay, hold on. Let me read you an excerpt. I have to read a little bit of it. I read I think not quite half of it, but it did have me in tears.

I was laughing really, really hard at one point, just because of the nonsense. And then I started asking myself, is this real? Is it sincere? I feel like it started maybe as sincere, but they got in on it and started playing it up for the haters. What do you think?
